Next stop.... Tong-Len

Tong-Len is a tent school in lower Dharamsala. One class we had the kids draw a map of India and pictures that show what India is to them. Some of the younger kids got a bit frustrated because they couldn't draw the outline of the country, so I decided to help out and draw it for them. (Side note: extent of my drawing skills ends at a pair of shoes on a stick figure) There were about 10 students with a map of India that pretty much looked like an eagle and one student did tell me to try again........

Art Class

December to February many Tibetan children are back in McLeod Ganj for their winter holiday. My friends Christy and Logan took advantage of this opportunity to start an art class for the kids. While they were away, I had the pleasure of teaching the class and never left, even after they returned.

National Uprising Day

The first day of the Chinese invasion in Tibet was March 10th 1959. On this day, fifty years later, Tibetans commemorated it with a 10 kilometer peaceful march from McLeod Ganj to Dharamsala. Once they reached lower Dharamsala, everyone sang the Tibetan national anthem, followed by several speeches. The event ended with a moment of silence for the Tibetan’s who lost their life in the struggle for independence.
